Only Ansel could’ve convinced our whole band and crew to get up before sunrise for a music video shoot on the beach! Always observing, I remember him remarking how cool it was that the director, Matthew Harrison, was able to take those candid clips of us and sculpt it into a narrative. None of us were actors, we were just bumming around the beach for an hour but Ansel later walked me through the underlying narrative that he perceived from the final edit. He was the protagonist, Adam the cool guy, Andy unobservant, and I was the blasé friend that wanted him to “get over” the Fancy Rollerskater! He would always crack up talking about how I wiped out every time we ran a different direction in that Hard Days Night-esque overhead shot. I think those burnt-up skates are still sitting on the pier.
